Flag Fundraiser

Posted on Mar 7 2017 - 11:40am

Troop 1014 is excited to announce the launch of its 2017 Flag Fundraiser.  This fundraiser involves boy scouts selling an annual subscription to display American flags on specific holidays throughout the year for businesses and homes owners.  All proceeds go to the Scouts and the Troop to fund camping events and service projects throughout the community.  The boys will setup and take down the flag for each flag holiday and ensure that the flags are properly stored.  All of the boys in the troop are trained on how to handle and manage the flag and they'll make sure its always treated with respect.  Your subscription not only helps Boy Scouts but it also makes your neighborhood look beautiful!

The annual subscription is $40 for the program which starts with Memorial Day.  The flag itself is a beautiful 3x5’ American flag with a topper and is attached via a 3’ piece of rebar on top of a 7’ white PVC tube.

The following are the flag holidays included in the program

Announcements

Rank progress:
Scouts!  Remember to bring your scout books to Mr. Eaves during a meeting so your accomplishments are transferred into the rank database.  This has some benefits, like:
1) if you lose the book, the stuff in the database is not lost
2) we plan activities based on what we can do and what we need to do

Cyber Chip:
Thanks to the Phoenix patrol for their fine presentation and recharge on Cyber Chip training!  Well done!
Scout rank requirement 6 requires BOTH the cyber chip and pamphlet exercises completion with parents or guardian.  Please bring both to a troop meeting to get them signed-off!

Medical Forms:
For weekend/overnight camping, current Medical Forms (Part A and B) http://troop1014.org/taxonomy/term/1001 must be on file with the troop.
Longer campouts require part C as well (completed by a physician).  This includes summer camp and Northern Tier.

Swim Test:
BSA Swim test occurred Feb. 26 at Cypress Creek YMCA.  You will prefer to have this completed before you arrive at summer camp (but it will be available there as well)!  Northern Tier also requires Swimmer classification to be performed by a qualified person.  Follow-up training may be arranged at the Y (contact Ian Gregersen).  Or, you may be classified by tagging-along with another outfit (just provide valid paperwork).

Summer Camp Kerr at Slippery Falls:
If you have not submitted your desired activities, time is getting short.  Check the troop calendar for details.

Northern Tier crews:
All the participants need to be swim classified by a qualified person for Northern Tier.  It is not whether we believe you, it is a documentation requirement we turn in at registration.

Phoenix Merit Badge University:
Participants should have their interests already listed with their registration information on the troop website.  See the calendar event for details and for course offerings.
Adults interested and capable of volunteering to assist or teach at the event are encouraged to sign up:
visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0a4da48-20173 for volunteer options.  Please note Big Cypress in the note along with the troop number.

Shooting Sports

Posted on Mar 6 2017 - 9:44pm
Virtually unanimous feedback from Camporee scouts: Loved shooting the long guns at Tellepsen!
The troop (or even a patrol) can go shooting at the ranch, provided there is adequate staffing for the event.
BSA guide to safe shooting requires a minimum of two NRA Certified adults - a Range Safety Officer and a Rifle Instructor - to run 8 scouts at a time on the range.

2016 BSA Rank Requirements are Mandatory as of January 1, 2017

Posted on Feb 7 2017 - 1:01pm

Last year, the new rank requirements were being phased in, and the BSA allowed Scouts to continue to follow the old requirements under some conditions.  Beginning January of 2017, all Scouts must use the new requirements regardless of rank.

Here is a printable list of the new requirements that may be inserted in your Scout Handbook.  The pages are meant to be folded and assembled into a booklet.

This document shows a side-by-side comparison of the old and new requirements.

An explanation of the transition from the old to new requirements may be found here.
